Title : Governing in a digital platform society

Rising income and wealth disparities are emerging in parallel with increasing dependence on digital technologies and services provided by dominant platform operators. While socio-political and economic consequences of high levels of platform concentration are being acknowledged, there is little agreement about how these companies should be governed. Policy and regulatory options are contested by corporate, government and civil society stakeholders but it is claimed increasingly that effective responses are needed to hold the platform operators to account. This lecture considers contending theories and strategies for governing the rapidly changing digital platform ecology with a specific focus on what has been called an information crisis.
