Title : Designing a field experiment on the Internet
Download the presentation - 902.03 KB
The aim of this workshop is to acquaint the students with experimental methods in economics and in particular with natural field experiments. Field experiments are gaining momentum as they avoid the constructed environment of a lab and therefore produce more viable results. However, the drawback is that field experiments are typically costly and the subjects payoffs are hard to control. In this workshop we will look at how experiments can be designed at a very low cost online and what tricks can be used to regain control of the environment. We will look at an example study and cover its implementation through the following steps: the design of the experiment, Institutional Review Board Approval, data collection, data analysis, results and implications. We will also look at some specific aspects of experimental work such as the ethics code and the submission process.
