My goal is to overview the topics of federalism, decentralization, and its interactions with public goods provision. I will review the core theory dating back from Tiebout (1956) and Oates, and move forward with the empirical literature. I intend to cover some of the classic results but give more emphasis to a set of recent empirical papers on the topic (e.g. Weaver and Narasimhan 2024, Tricaud 2025, Dahis and Szerman 2025).
